Would You Live in an Underground Apartment?

Did you know that there is a city of people, with a population of around 2,000, that mostly live underneath the ground?

Coober Pedy is a small mining town in Australia, also known as the “opal capital of the world”.  Because of its desert location, summertime temperatures tend to typically rise to around 125 degrees.  Without much in the way of water or shade to cool off in, a majority of the towns population decided to take advantage of their mining skills and build not only their homes, but churches, hotels and even more businesses both completely underground and into hillsides.

This gives new meaning to living “down under”, right?

In addition to private homes and businesses that are located underground there are also some apartments for rent.  Take, for instance, Desert View Apartments.  They offer furnished two and three bedroom apartments that are located underground.  Like other homes, they also feature their own kitchen facilities, living rooms and bathrooms.  For above ground activities there is a small swimming pool and even an evening golf course where residents play with glow in the dark golf balls!

So the question remains; would you live in an underground apartment?
