Wise Winter Skin Care

Although it may not be snowing where you live, you can’t deny all of the recent news reports of record low temperatures around the United States. Those of us that live in Los Angeles apartments are even feeling the chill!

So what do you do when, like the weather, your skin starts to take a turn for the worst?

Thanks to the fine folks at Huffington Post and Allure Magazine, we’re about to bring you the top tips for winter skin care!

1. Invest in a Humidifier

Blasting the heat may make your toes nice and toasty, but all of that dry heat certainly doesn’t do wonders for your skin, especially if you’re going into cold air and back into hot again.

French women have been using humidifiers to retain moisture in their skin for decades, keeping skin supple and less prone to wrinkles, some even bringing them to blast under their desks at work! Investing in a humidifier to keep the air around you less dry isn’t just a great way to keep your skin nice, it also works wonders in preventing sinus issues and colds.

2. Don’t Forget to Exfoliate

You may think that exfoliating dry skin may irritate it, but it’s actually quite the opposite! Sloughing off dead skin cells once or twice a week from your face and body will increase the amount of absorption that you get from the moisturizing products that you apply, such as body lotions and face creams.  Check out this great blog on affordable, do-it-yourself exfoliates!

Speaking of body lotions and face creams…

3. Moisturize moisturize moisturize!

In the winter time it is very important to keep your face and body moisturized!  Moisturize from the inside by upping the amount of water you drink each day. Moisturize from the outside by applying a thick, creamy layer of lotion to your skin. Moisturize your face with a heavier-than-normal face cream (with SPF for daytime).

And don’t forget to moisturize your lips with balm, your feet with lotion and your scalp with creamy, moisturizing shampoos and conditioners!
