The 10 Commandments of Being a Good Roommate

No matter how young or old you are, there are always certain unspoken rules of how to be a “good” roommate.  Here, we outline the 10 commandments, or unspoken rules, of how to be a good roommate, complete with amusing GIFs. Enjoy!

  1. Thou must not enter a room with a closed door without first knocking and being invited in.
  2. Thou shall always pay your portion of the utilities without more than one reminder.
  3. Thou must wear headphones when watching tv or listening to music after 10:00 pm.
  4. Thou shall not insert yourself into your roommates social life without invitation.
  5. Thou must not “borrow” from your roommates clothes, toiletries or food without first asking.
  6. Thou shall never leave dirty dishes in the sink for more than pre-agreed amount of time.
  7. Thou must always replace the toilet paper if there is little-to-none left after you’ve “gone”.
  8. Thou shall be reasonable and not become enraged when communicating or being communicated to about roommate and home concerns.
  9. Thou shall help keep the common areas clean.
  10. Thou shall not invite friends/significant others to stay over more than a few nights per week without first discussing with other roommate(s).
