Santa Monica’s Aero Theatre Gets Surprise From ‘Master’ Director Paul Thomas Anderson

The City of Santa Monica got a bonus boost of attention Friday night thanks to a surprise screening of the much-anticipated movie “The Master” at the Aero Theatre. Director Paul Thomas Anderson (“There Will Be Blood,” “Magnolia”) debuted his new film at the historic movie theater following a previously announced screening of “The Shining.”

The drama, which stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and is already drawing acclaim from critics, isn’t getting a proper theatrical release until September 14. Anderson and his wife, Maya Rudolph, were on hand at the theater for the screening.

The Aero Theatre which is close to Olympic Studios, [email protected], [email protected] and other NMS-owned properties in Santa Monica is operated by the nonprofit American Cinematheque. Restored classic films and indie movies are shown at the iconic theater, which also hosts Oscar screenings and other special events.
