Santa Monica’s 28th Annual Twilight Concert Series Starts Next Week!

Attention, current and future residents of NMS’s Santa Monica apartments: the latest installment of the city’s Twilight Concert Series is about to begin!

Now in its 28th year, the Twilight Concert Series is a free summer program open to residents of Santa Monica and beyond. While there had been concerns about the program being canceled, last year’s impressive attendance turnouts have kept it afloat.

Every installment of the Twilight Concert Series takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. on the Santa Monica Pier, which is within easy walking distance of [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected], and the many other NMS properties that are located in or close to downtown Santa Monica.

This year’s series will find an eclectic array of musicians from reggae to country to indie-rock  performing over the course of 10 concerts. Here’s the lineup:

July 5: Donavon Frankenreiter (singer/songwriter) and Jeff Young’s Song & Dance Society (soul group)

July 12: The Mighty Diamonds (Jamaican harmony trio) and the Lions (reggae band)

July 19: Haim and Wildcat! Wildcat! (Los Angeles-based indie acts)

July 26: Jackie Greene (jam-rock musician)

August 2: Kasey Chambers (Australian country singer/songwriter)

August 9: Parade Collective (Cirque de Soleil musicians)

August 16: Amadou & Mariam (African rock musicians) and Y La Bamba (Latin-inflected indie pop)

August 23: Alex Cuba (Cuban singer/songwriter) and Lucky 7 Mambo (salsa ensemble)

August 30: Hot 8 Brass Band (from New Orleans) and the Gumbo Brothers (Louisiana funk band)

September 6: Best Coast (indie-rock group)

If you decide to check out one of the Twilight Concert Series shows, it’s recommended that you walk, bike or take the Big Blue Bus to the Santa Monica Pier. As Santa Monicans know, parking downtown can get hairy … especially on weeknights. Free valet bike parking will be available on the beach, south of the pier.

Happy concert-going!
