Rage Yoga: Would it Be All the Rage in Los Angeles?

Los Angeles is an amazing place for yogis.  You name it, you can find it in the City of Angels: Ashtanga Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Hot Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Jivamukti Yoga, Power Yoga, Tantra Yoga…the list goes on and on.

Still, there is one kind of yoga, a new and less traditional kind, that we haven’t seen in Los Angeles.  In fact, it looks as if it may only be offered at this point way up North in Calgary Canada: rage yoga!

YOGA (1)

The mastermind behind rage yoga, Lindsay Istace, explains that while you are doing regular yoga poses, they are being combined with less of a “namaste” attitude and more of an “f yeah” attitude.  She came up with the idea while going through a rough breakup  when she started acting on the urge to swear and scream during her private, regular yoga practices.  As a result, she claims to have overcame some issues with addiction and anger.

While she admits that rage yoga isn’t for everybody, she does think that it helps those who don’t normally thrive in a serene, quiet atmosphere to get their yoga on and possibly move forwards towards the more classic versions of yoga.  When you are swearing and incorporating rude gestures into poses and yes, even drinking a beer or two during the class, it is very hard to take yourself seriously. Laughter plays a big part of the process.

She now offers Rage Yoga classes a few times a week in addition to the regular yoga classes that she instructs.

So, Los Angeles yogis, would you be interested in taking a Rage Yoga class? You can check out a video over at CTV News HERE.
