Possible Funding for Los Angeles Tenants Facing Eviction

Residents of Los Angeles County that are racing an eviction hearing soon may have free resources at their disposal.

This week, the County Board of Supervisors approved a motion by Supervisor Sheila Kuehl which lays the foundation to establish an eviction defense program in an attempt to reduce the rising numbers of homeless.

A 2016 study by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority found that 90% of people evicted within the country did not have adequate, or any, legal representation.

In Los Angeles. there are various legal reasons why a landlord may file an eviction claim such as non-payment of rent, the violation of the lease agreement or rules, use of the unit for an illegal purpose, refusing reasonable access to the landlord for repairs, hosting a subtenant and seeking to recover the unit for remodeling or demolish.
