Los Angeles Beach Might Be Going to the Dogs

Patch.com reports that earlier this week Councilmember Joe Buscaino submitted a proposal to allow dog owners to take their dogs off-leash and on Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, which, technically is within the Los Angeles city limits.  This would make it the closest dog beach to everyone else in Los Angeles, which, as of now, is Rosie’s Dog Beach in Long Beach.

The proposal asks specifically that the harbor side of the beach allow dogs since it has consistently received an “F” grade from various environmental groups due to the “lack of water circulation”, making it unsafe for public use.  Buscaino thinks that if this particular beach was a designated dog beach, it would discourage the families and individuals that currently swim in the area despite the pollution.

Parks and Rec officials are now evaluating Buscaino’s proposal and will report back in the next 30 days.

What do you think? Would you take your dog to the proposed dog beach in San Pedro?
