Los Angeles Apartment Hunting: 3 Tips to Make it Easier

Los Angeles apartment hunting can be  very different from other metropolitan cities.  Yes, like other cities, there is some pretty fierce competition, but if you are new to the area, you may not really know where to begin.
Here are the top 3 tips tips for making Los Angeles apartment hunting a little less painful:

  1.  Know what you want.

Yes, this will involve making a list and checking it twice! Before you can begin your search, you’re going to need to figure out what you need out of an apartment and want you just want.
Figure out your budget and then what your very top needs and wants are and what you can live without.  It’s kind of like playing a game of “would you rather”, only the less fun/juicy Los Angeles apartment hunting version.

  2.  Surf the net.

Yes, Craigslist is a great site for apartment hunting on, but in LA, we have a bunch of other websites that are Los Angeles specific.  These include Westside Rentals and The Rental Girl.  And, don’t forget to take advantage of the free “rental” listing guest search that you can do on TheMLS.

  3. Explore your neighborhood options.

Don’t just take a friend of a friends word for what neighborhood you think you may want to live in, get out there and actually explore! Los Angeles neighborhoods are vast and there are plenty of them.  Exploring various neighborhoods now will save you the possible heartache later after you are locked into a long term lease.
