How to Use Aromatherapy in Your Home

It’s no secret that aromatherapy can be a very powerful way to evoke memories or stir up certain emotions, so why not utilize it to your advantage around the home?

Here are the best scents to have around your home in order to be more productive, happy and well rested!

The Living Room

The living room is where you will entertain guests as well as unwind after a long day but before you go to sleep, so it’s important to keep the scents in this room limited to those that are either inviting or comforting.

For the warmer months, consider a light and happy fragrance such as oils or candles that smell of fresh flowers, plants and citrus such as the Cherry Blossom candle by Bath and Body Works, which is the best of both worlds, or the acclaimed Beach candle by Henri Bendel.

When it starts to get chilly, try the Mokara diffuser or candle by VoluSpa which is a happy combination of white lilly, spring moss and orchid or create a cozy atmosphere with the scent of a wood burning fireplace.

Your Home Office

Sure, no one wants to be stressed out while working, but the home office should remain less of a haven and be more of a room for productivity and concentration.  The fragrances that are most likely to induce alertness are basil, bergamot, black pepper, grapefruit, peppermint, cinnamon and rosemary. For concentration, lemon, basil and rosemary are winners.

As you can see, the common fragrances for remaining alert and concentrated are basil, bergamont and rosemary with citrus scents as a close second.  Try the Fillicudi candle by Baronessa that combines both bergamont and rosemary or the Lime Basil and Mandarin candle by Jo Malone in your home office.

The Bedroom

Unlike the living room and home office, the bedroom can be a great place of solace where one can emotionally and physically recharge their batteries, so to speak.  It is important that in the bedroom you keep fragrances relaxing and light.

The top scents that will induce heavy relaxation and often times even sleep are lavender, chamomile and jasmine.  Try the Lavender Chamomile candle by DW Home or, if you aren’t a fan of any of the above scents, aromatherapists suggest utilizing any scent that makes you feel very relaxed, a common one being an earthy scent such as the Paddywax Eco Green Diffuser in Bordeaux Fig and Vetiver.
