5 Places to Ski & Snowboard Close to Los Angeles

People that live in Southern California definitly own the bragging rights for being able to both ski and surf within the same day! If you’re living in the Los Angeles area and are looking to shred some sweet powder, here are 4 of the closest spots to ski and/or snowboard close to home.

5 Places to (1)

Mount Baldy
8401 Mt Baldy Rd.
Mt Baldy, CA 91759
(909) 982-0800
Drive time from Los Angeles: A little over an hour

An awesome “bare bones” option for those looking to ski or board without a longer commute or higher cost, Mount Baldy may be a little outdated but still offers fun on up to 26 trails.  Accommodations are few and far between but aren’t really necessary due to the close proximity to home. Be sure to check their website before you go as its close proximity to Los Angeles sometimes works in its disadvantage as far as snow goes.

Mount High
24510 State Highway 2
Wrightwood, CA 92397
(888) 754-7878
Drive time from Los Angeles: About an hour and a half

If you’re not a fan of “bare bones” skiing or snow boarding, head to Mount High, the closest spot for full-service skiing and snowboarding. There are 3 resorts, West Resort, East Resort and North Resort, and one lift pass is good for all three with a free shuttle thrown in to take you to and fro.  While there are 62 trails, don’t expect for them all to be open at any given time unless there is an extremely large amount of snow being dumped on top of what’s generated onsite.

Snow Valley Mountain Resort
35100 California 18
Running Springs, CA 92382
(909) 867-2751
Drive time from Los Angeles: Between an hour and a half to two hours

Located between Big Bear Lake and Arrowhead Lake, this is a great spot for those who like to ski and board without the larger crowds or higher cost of Bear Mountain.  While there are 28 trails for skiing and snowboarding as well as a dedicated sledding area, you’ll have to make a drive for lodging as there are no onsite accommodations.

Bear Mountain
43101 Goldmine Dr.
Big Bear, CA 92314
Drive time from Los Angeles: About two and a half hours

Located in the San Bernardino Mountains, Big Bear is an awesome getaway spot for those looking for a day trip, or, thanks to the 2 large ski/snowboarding resorts, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, a weekend getaway.  Snow bunnies will be happy to hear that purchasing one lift pass gives you access to both resorts and their combined  50+ trails via a free shuttle.

Mammoth Mountain
10001 Minaret Rd.
Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546
(760) 934-2571
Drive time from Los Angeles: A little over five hours

Closer than Tahoe but farther from the rest, Mammoth is an amazing option for a weekend or long weekend skiing or boarding getaway. Like Tahoe, Mammoth has a large village that is active year-round as well as 150 killer trails located high above the rest.  They also get the most natural snow out of any of the above listed areas.
