4 Cool Retro Diners in Los Angeles That Also Serve As Filming Locations

It’s no secret that Los Angeles is home to some of the most celebrated restaurants in the United States, but if you’re looking to dine somewhere that is a little (or a lot) more low key, why not check out some of LA’s greatest and most loved historical diners? Oh yeah, and they have all served as filming locations for various well known tv shows and movies to boot!

The Original Pantry
877 S. Figueroa St.
Los Angeles, CA
(213) 972-9279 90017

Back in 1924 The Original Pantry opened its doors in downtown Los Angeles.  In 1950, they moved down the block due to construction of the 101 freeway.  Regardless, this diner has been feeding the hungry masses heaping plates of comfort food for 24 hours a day for simply decades!  You may remember the interior from movies such as Knocked Up and The Million Dollar Hotel.

Rae’s
2901 Pico Blvd.
Santa Monica, CA 90405
(310) 828-7937

A Santa Monica staple since 1958, Rae’s decor and menu prices have barely changed since then.  Rae’s serves hot and homemade food classics including meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, hotcakes with bacon and eggs and quarter pound burgers.  This “greasy spoon” has also served as the backdrop for various memorable photo shoots and movie scenes such as True Romance, Lords of Dogtown and Starsky and Hutch.  Definitely worth a visit for homecooked and inexpensive meals, but be sure to bring cash as they don’t accept cards!
