3 MLK Day Events Today in Los Angeles and Santa Monica

Los Angeles’s 30th Annual Kingdom Day Parade 

Beginning at 10:45 a.m. today, the route begins in South Los Angeles at Vermont Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. and continues to Crenshaw Boulevard, where it turns south toward Leimert Park.  Here is a map of the parade route, related street closures and public transportation.The life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. is commemorated in the parade with floats, marching bands, drill teams and more.

30th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration 

This event taking place in Santa Monica features speaker Gabriella Rosco discussing social justice, working for systemic changes and addressing the root causes of injustice through a social movement. In addition there will be dance acts, a performance by Gospel singer Linda Alvarez, the presentation of this year’s Community Light Award and of course, readings from Dr. King’s work.

The California African American Museum will host its annual open house today from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm in Exposition Park featuring live music, art activities and birthday cake.
