10 Easy Ways Apartment Renters Can Help Conserve Water

It’s no secret that we love our weather here in Los Angeles, but sometimes even the most silver of linings has a cloud, or in this case, the lack of a cloud.

Yes, California is experiencing a severe drought. If you think that by living in an apartment where you don’t have a yard is the only way that you can help conserve water then think again; water conservation isn’t just for people living in homes with yards!

Here we highlight some of the easiest and most important ways to conserve water while living in a Los Angeles apartment, courtesy of SaveOurH20.org.

  1. Run the dishwasher only when full.
  2. Report any toilets that will not stop running and any leaky faucets or appliances to maintenance.
  3. Soak pots and pans instead of letting the water run while you scrape them clean.
  4. Take five minute showers instead of 10 minute showers. Save: 12.5 gallons with a low flow shower head, 25 gallons with a standard 5.0 gallon per minute shower head.
  5. Turn water off when brushing teeth or shaving. Save: Approximately 10 Gallons/Day.
  6. Don’t use the toilet as a wastebasket.
  7. When shaving your face, plug the sink instead of running the water to rinse your razor and save up to 300 gallons a month.
